Looks like an infection, but then I suppose that's to be expected in a sour. wink

You may have to wait for those tasting notes, this one has to ferment for another 15 months. The initial fermentation was done in a bucket, that is what BYO suggested. It will now age in the carboy for around 12 months. I have a 5 gallon wood barrel that I will transfer this beer into and age for 3-4 months. I may add some cherries to this at some point.

I am impressed with your patience.

I have never had a sour, is there a commercial brand I could look for so I can give one a try?

if you're lucky enough to find some Cantillon (can-tee-yon) from Belgium, the guys on the BN say it's their favorite sour (never had it, myself)... there might be some other Belgian sours out there, too... probably have to go to a "high end" bottle shop. or you might find some at a local brew pub, but some don't want to spend the money dedicate an entire set of equipment to sour beers.

Jolly Pumpkin. As far as I know, they only do sours. I know the Bowery Whole Foods beer store sometimes has them (and other sours), so you may want to check the beer section of your Whole Foods.

If you are going to try a sour for the very first time I would suggest Duchess De Bourgogne. It is sour but not too sour, not a whole lot of vinegar taste. You get some cherry notes and a nice malt backbone with a nice funky nose to it. $11-15 for a large bomber that comes in at around 6% ABV.
