Question.....even though there is no 60 minute hop addition do I still boil for 60 minutes? or do I add my flavor hops right away and start my clock @ 30 minutes?

pilsner malt needs a 90 minute boil to drive out the DMS... boil 30 mins, then add the hops and start the 60 min timer.

a little bit of a flavor addition would be good... but let the orange peel and coriander fill the aroma. imo, never enough orange peel. zest and juice of a couple oranges might be good, too. maybe even a staggered addition of some orange juice? i was disappointed in the lack of orange in my blue moon clone... so the more the better!

The cascades will give it more of a grapefruit aroma than the
flowery that you normally get in a wit. Heck it might turn out
better.
Those flaked grains will clog a braid bad, don't forget the rice
hulls or maybe you do biab and it doesn't matter?
150 F and T 58 sounds like it may finish a little on the dry side
but still good with those clove esters.

I agree about the orange zest, hard to overdo it. I added the zest
of one lemon to mine also and it gave it an interesting flavor.

yeah, it'll clog the grain bag, too... the little pores of the bag will get slopped in by the mushiness... so don't forget some hulls.

Since you haven't brewed this yet, I might mash a little higher (152-154*) so that it's not too thin and dry, unless that's what you have in mind. True to style or not, Blue Moon is a favorite of mine...if that's really what you are looking to end up with, getting some body in there will be good for it. I might also switch to Noble hops like Saaz or Hallertau so the hop character doesn't interfere with the spices and orange...but that's just me.

I haven't had good luck using Flaked Oats in the mash when brewing a Witbier or something like an Oatmeal Stout. It seems it's really benificial to do a seperate mash for those oats or use instant oats instead. Another thing, if you want that permenant haze, add a pinch of flour towards the end of the boil.

Thanks for the tips. I purchased the kit from AHS so I am going to brew it to the recipe. It got great reviews on their website although most say it isn't quite the same as Blue Moon. Most say they like this clone better than the original.

I like Blue Moon, but this one is more for the Wife. She likes it orangy so I think I will add the zest of an orange to it. I will also try the pinch of flour. I also like the idea of a higher mash temp.

I have been VERY patient with this one. I was going to give it a try this weekend but never did. It had nice flavor when I kegged it. The color was a little light at the time and it seemed overly cloudy. More so than it should be. I tried the "Pinch of flour", maybe I over did it.

In the very near future I will grab a glass and give updates.

Thanks for asking!

finally tapped this keg on Saturday. My official review is Meh. I am not overly impressed with this one. While I dont hate blue moon, it would not be my first choice.

I made this one for SWMBO and she is not a big beer drinker so it will be up to me to kill the keg.

I cant think of anything that would make it better and I doubt I will make it again.
