I am on the 10th day of fermentation on my first batch of mr beer. I used a brita filter to clean my water. I just realized i forgot to sanitize my brita pitcher and didnt boil all my water (like mr beer instructs). what are the chances that my beer wil be infected and will actually taste good?

Your prob fine. Give it a taste after 10 days or so. If it doesn't taste terrible, give it a few more days then bottle. Remember though, the sample won't be great either, warm flat and young. But u should know if it will be drinkable or not. Oh, and try not to get to much yeast/trub in your sample, throws of the taste.

thanks for the help hopefully it will turn out good because im really interested in brewing and it would be disappointing if my first batch was undrinkable. I will definitly learn from my mistake and never mess around with sanitation.

My first batch was March 2007 and I became aware of this site in January 2008. I wished I knew of this forum sooner as my first batch was known as "Gaaack". I didn't quit after one batch and managed to do 60 or so Mr Beer batches before going AG (most of the time).
If you make a mistake... document it and learn !

Congrats! No need to go to 5 gallon batches on your next batch, but..if you've got your sanitation and temp control set, no reason not to.

But...I'd suggest sticking with Mr. Beer sized batches until you brew a batch you know is good. That way, no worries over sanitation or anything else. smile

Congratulations on your start into the hobby,I'll bet you will be O.K.Before you order your 5 gal. kit remember you still have to get through bottling. Its easier to learn on smaller batches.Good luck and happy brewing!!!

plus, you can brew 2 DIFFERENT batches that equal 5 gallons, vice only one batch fro 5 gallons... more styles and recipes on hand at any given time. that's why i like the small batches smile
