Anyone ever heard of this? I was talking to a guy over the weekend about sanitizing bottles (glass) and he was telling me that he uses his dishwasher to do it. I looked on my dishwasher, and it seems to have a "sanitize and rinse" cycle...any input on this?

yup, lots of people do this with good results. Another way is to put them in the oven (again, glass only). If they are clean it kills off all the nasties.

My dishwasher is old and doesn't have that feature but I would use it if it did. Don't use any soap though, just run it dry.

Works great. I throw a little Oxyclean in there for good measure as well.

I have been using this method for over a year with glass bottles
and not a single problem yet. I use a TBS of one step in each
detergent cup along with the heat dry. Works great but my bottles
are pretty well clean going in.

i'd do oven over dishwasher... since a lot of food particles and gunk can be stuck in the lower bowels of the dishwasher. plus, the oven method will keep them sterile as long as the bottles stayed covered with foil... so you can do one day of baking and sterilize three or four cases for use later. but, i know the dishwasher works for others... that's just me.

Yep, this is the only way I sanitize glass bottles now.

My dishwasher looks like High Irons quite often. :P

I use a bit of oxyclean or one step, set it to sanitize and heat dry, and then just wait and get my beer ready to be bottles.

It's quick, it's easy, and I have yet to have an issue with it.

I also use the dishwasher to initially clean but I also still rinse them with One step right before use, better safe than sorry...
