So does your lhbs give out recipes for their kits online for free? I am glad you have and like your lhbs that is great but not everyone has one so places like northern brewer are great, plus they carry a lot of grains and hops a lot of places do not. I just don't get why you dislike northern brewer? Everything I have ever heard and experienced was exceptional so if you want to complain about them have a real reason. I said I was less impressed. That's all. OK, perhaps I was a bit strong. But, I used have the impression that they were more involved/hands-on in brewing. For example, providing recipe specifics (IBUs, SRM, etc) in the past was part of it. Old style NB recipe detail And while I'm OK with it, I'm surprised (not really) that the die-hard rehydrate fans here give them a pass on pitching the yeast in this video. As for my lhbs, no, he does not have an online presence - not his thing. He doesn't sell his own kits, but will put together any recipe a customer comes in with or work with you to generate one on the spot. He'll also share one of his brews with you. A different business than NB. I realize not everyone has this option. Still, I used to have a different impression of NB.

You realize they provide everything you need to recreate their recipes right on their website... Here for example If you click additional information under any recipe it will give you the information and the directions..what more do you need? Yes, they provide the .pdf recipe as you posted. They did this in the past. What they used to also provide is detail. Caribou Slobber I guess I don't "need" any of it, but it's good to know hop alphas, efficiency, formulas used, etc., to compare with brewing software, for example.

And while I'm OK with it, I'm surprised (not really) that the die-hard rehydrate fans here give them a pass on pitching the yeast in this video. hmm, didn't even notice that. good catch, dgs. while i always rehydrate (and jamil recommends rehydrating, as well) the mr. malty pitching calculator says that for 3 gallons of an average gravity wort, half a pack of dry yeast is needed. if you don't rehydrate, about half the whole pack will die, so half a pack of cells is exactly what gets into the beer. if you do rehydrate that whole packet of dry yeast and pitch it all, you'll be even better off... as i've found out.

I too use this method for many reasons (cost, space and time) and I jus twatched the video and noticed that mishap as well psuchunk03. When using dry yeast I always rehydrate and try to be as sanitary as possible.
