Hey guys! I am new to home brewing, but already I am addicted, and I haven't even drank my first batch, haha! I ordered and received the basic Irish Stout HME before I found this forum and started looking at all the different things you can do!

Anyway, I want to know a simple Irish-style recipe for use with the Irish Stout HME that will flavor it up a little bit. I plan on starting it up this Friday, so it will be ready right about St. Patrick's day (figure I can use the 2-2-2 method). I am open to any and all styles/flavors! I appreciate all feedback!

I'm a big fan of Mr. Beer's The Dubliner.

You can substitute a pound of Dark DME from your LHBS for the can of Creamy Brown UME, and pick up the hops while you're there too, rather than having to order just a few items from Mr. Beer. I'd also suggest getting a larger packet of yeast than just the one pack of Mr. Beer yeast. Fermentis S-04, Danstar Nottingham, Danstar Windsor, or Wyeast or White Labs' Irish Ale yeasts would all be excellent choices.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Alright, thanks man! That does look great, and gives me an excuse to check out my LHBS! I'm not familiar with using hops or different types of yeast yet, but this looks like a good intro to using them!

I made the batch up today, and I think it's going to turn out well! I ran into one problem when I started making the wort however. I mixed the can of Irish stout in first followed by the bag of dried malt extract. The dried malt extract clumped up into big wads. I put the wort back onto the heat and just kept working at it until all the clumps dissolved. Hopefully this will not affect the beer adversely. It does smell wonderful and has a very nice dark color! I can't wait to drink it! Thanks again for the help!

you're prolly fine. I wouldn't worry about it as long as you got all the clumps out. congrats, you made beer!!
