3 theoretically complete batches for $12.99 designed for the Beer Machine. Anyone tried any of the Beer Machine refills in a Mr. Beer LBK before?

http://www.cabelas.com/product/The-Beer-...llProducts&

(I hear the phone call to order is to make sure the person ordering is of drinking age.)

I have not...but, hey...give it a shot!

Even if each refill is just the equivalent of 1 Mr. Beer HME, that's still a great deal. Just add 1 lb DME and BAM! Beer!

I say give it a shot.

interesting. wasn't there a guy here around christmas that was trying out the actual beer machine? wonder how that went...

oh, if you try these Em, you need to "overfill" your LBK to 2.6 gallons...which would be right near the the "quart" stamp on the side of the keg.

but I see no reason why this wouldn't work out

Or just have slightly stronger beer than intended.

one of the reviews is from someone who used it with mr. beer.

i think the beer machine guy had some issues with carbonation and the co2 carts. not sure though.

I have not tried anything meant for the Beer Machine but I have tried several HME's from various competitors and brewed then in the LBK. What first comes to mind is the Brewferm series. Thses kits are intended to make 9 liters of beer which works out well for our keg. I've made the Trippel a few times and was pleased with how it came out. I've also done Cooper's, Edme, Munton's, a Northern Brewer English Pale Ale and maybe an Ironmaster?

Just about any beer can be fermented in the LBK once the recipe is right sized.

I'm planning to do the brewferm tripel soon. Did you use corn sugar or more malt mammy? Did you use their yeast or a liquid yeast?

Without looking at the recipe, I wanted to mention that the Belgians use beet sugar (sucrose) in their recipes. So that's what I'd lean towards using.

That said, I don't think you'll go wrong by following the kit's directions, or Mammy's advice on this one.

The first time I brewed this up I used corn sugar and Saflager S-23. Yes, I brewed an Abbey Style Trippel Ale as a lager - Mammy the Maverick. What can I say, it was February and my basement, where I do most of my brewing was perfect for a lager but really too cool for an ale. It came out pretty good. I did take a few hits on here for making it as a lager but it was my beer. Oh and back then I didn't have a hydrometer.

The second time I brewed it up I used the yeast that came with it along with some light DME and a cup of beet sugar. The OG was 1.080 and the FG was 1.024 which I wasn't real happy about. I think D Rock was brewing something similar at about the same time and he had the same issue trying to get that FG down below 1.020. It still tasted good and I think the abv was around 7.3%. I plan on doing one of these again soon and will most likely use Nottignham or Safale S-05. It's easier to make ales this winter in my basement with the mild temps we've had outside this season.

awesome. I was planning to do it with half DME and half candi syrup/sugar. I was gonna use their yeast and maybe t-58 or some liquid. My LHBS sells brewferm kits, I just need to get one and open a fermenter for about a month lol. Thanks mammy!!
