These are the three extract/steeping grain batches I got going last weekend. Got to try out the new full size fermentation fridge and get some batches going. Got an English Bitter, some of my Fat Liar and my Amarillo Wheat on the right. 3 batches for the effort of one. I did simultaneous boils on the stove and let them ferment together. I need to raise the temp to 70 and dry hop each batch for another 5 days or until I bottle.

Awwww, they're so cute! A little family of beers!

What's that fermentor on the left?

Yeah, the left is just a water jug that the distilled water came in that I used for the extracts. In fact, they are all water bottles, the other two are grade 3 like the Mr.Beer fermenters not the grade 7 plastic they usually are...the left one I don't know, it was just convienent and killed two birds with one stone.

That's great, I don't think I've ever had three batches going at the same time. Do you normally use aluminum foil instead of an airlock? Or is that just something you switch to after fermentation has slowed down a bit?

I typcially use a single bucket fermenter with an air lock. I also usually use the middle jug with an air lock and a bung but the bucket had a batch going already so I just sanitized some foil and used that on all three openings. No different than using the lid on a Mr. Beer fermenter. It will let Co2 out while keeping anything from getting in. With the jugs I can see the ferementation, so I don't need to rely on the airlock bubbles to monitor activity.

Oh yeah, that Amarillo Wheat is the Gumball Head like beer...it's much ligher than the picture looks, especially now after fermentation...more like 8 SRM than the 13 or so in the pic.

love the pic (and the resourcefulness!).

great way to fill the pipeline in a hurry too. how long are you thinking these bad boys will need until drinking time? I'll play the home version (time is from brew day): GBH-4 weeks, Bitter-6 weeks, FL-8 weeks

how'd I do?

The wheat and the bitter are good beers while young...ill be drinking all three well before they are well conditioned but all should taste great with two weeks in the fidge after carbonating.

The one on the left is just a common water bottle with apull out dispenser cap, you should be able to find those in any larger grocery store, I'm still looking for larger water bottles for fermenting myself, but if it helps most office depot stores have a water bottle display my stores are currently all 7s

I found these at kmart actually in the water filter isle. They are 3 and 5 gal bottles. Yeah if u can its best to find grades 2 or 3, maybe 4 for fermentation.

Dry hopped all three batches today, I love dry hopping, haven't done it in a while. .25 oz Fuggles in the Fat Tire, .5 oz Fuggles in the Bitter and 1.25 oz. in the Amarillo Wheat.

Now that is a nice pic!

I really want to learn how to harvest yeast. I have never attempted it.

I have looked into #7 water bottles. #7 basically means "of no use for recycling" It doesnt mean it is bad. The #7 bottles are polycarbonate which is supposed to be one step down from PET.

Are those the ones that spring water and such come in?

Because I, and psuchunk03 can both tell you from experience that trying to reuse them as fermentors is a bad, bad idea.
