I just got back from our local Hopfest 2012 at the Wrought Iron Grill. Everyone was Hoppy and everything was Hopping.
The other night at this establishment I had a Hopslam for warm-up. Today I started off with a Hop Rocket from Arcadia Ales at 9%ABV and 111 IBU's. The second brew I tasted was called Smells Like Weed IPA from Darkhorse, another 9%ABV brew ! Finally at 3 PM they tapped a firkin of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA at 18% IBV and IBU's !!! Nice aroma but this one only got better as it got warmer. The last brew I had before having to get home for the Bud Shootout at Daytona was called Bludgeon Yer Eye IPA from Shorts Brewing Company, an American Black Ale at 5% ABV and an unbelievable 145 IBU's !!!

Sorry I don't have more detailed tasting notes but the ambiance was great and talking about brewing with my friends and associates was fantastic. Tomorrow I will be racking my Breakfast Stout to gas and testing drinking a Shady Mountain Stout.

I don't know why you would have more detailed tasting notes after that assault on your taste buds. Might take a few days to recover. smile

18% IBV?

Probably 18% ABV, that 120 min is like a cognac! Ive had a few of those before and they pack a punch! I prefer the 90 min so I can have more that one lol

Sounds like a great night of beer tasting Banjoman!

The ABV of 120 minute varies from year to year. It can be anywhere in the 15-20% range.

Personally, I prefer the 60 minute...more hop flavor and aroma than the 90 or 120, balanced with the malt. Though, if both the 60 and 90 were on tap (or in bottles) at the same price in a bar, I'd go with the 90 minute...just knowing that I'd only be getting 2 or 3 of them.

Except for that one night I had 7 pints of 90 minute during happy hour (without having eaten dinner). Luckily, the bar was only half a block from home. So, even though I don't remember paying my tab, or leaving, or making it home in one piece, I did all of those things. wink

I love both the 60 and 90 minute....however I find the 120 minute to be too much...it was cool to have one, but I would probably not order another one...

As my mind clears and I remember more I can tell you that the Hop Rocket and the Dogfish Head 120 both were firkin fed brews.

I hope this means that this year will be a fantastic year for Hops.

I tried looking it up on their website but I can't get in. Once I put my birth date in the screen just freezes up.

My local specialty beer place didn't have Dogfish 120 anyway. So I settled for some Dogfish 90 minute IPA.

I thought I would just give it a try. I've had the Dogfish 60. We'll see later tonight.

While I was on vacation this year I saw a 120 at a bar (Cock & Bull). I have been dying to try one but they wanted $30 dollars for it...I didn't want to try it that bad.
