for you guys that use tubing for transferring your wort/beer...how do you keep them clean/mold free? or is this just something I need to spend a few bucks on every few months?

I rinse and sanitize mine before and after each use, but the moisture lead to little patches of noticible mold after several months (and PBW didn't clean it, so boo to that!). is there a special trick to drying out the tubing?

What are you sanitizing it with? That's just what I do, but I use starsan, and haven't had a mold problem yet.

I do also hang my tubing up to kinda sorta drain, though there's always some moisture left in it.

i've seen a tubing brush somewhere....either AHS, northern or midwest. I think it was AHS. i'll prolly get it next time I order something from there.

that said, i do the same as you. rinse and sanitize. i should prolly replace some of it soon. i really only have it on my autosiphon.

I think it's also key to clean as soon as possible after use. I've never had a mold problem, but since there's no humidity here, mold rarely hits anything anyway.

found it!! here. i think it may be for keg lines BUT i don't see why it wouldn't work for tubing.

I do the same and so far no problems. Tubing is cheap and we should all probably replace it annually. Plastic in general should be replaced periodically... although not necessarily annually. Bugs can hide in the tiniest of places.

I use star san as well. and I rinse more or less right after using it. my area DOES get humid frequently though, so that can't be helping.

that brush is cool though...I had been wondering if such a thing existed.

yeah, for like 40-45 cents per foot, it isn't a budget breaker...but I was just wondering. seems like I do similar things, but the environment I live in must speed up the process.
that being said, my tubing lasted about a year, so I think I got my $2 worth. all I am using it for is transferring from kettle to LBK, then I have a different (bigger) line to rack from LBK to corny...also have the MB bottling wand too

all kinds of fun stuff!

i rinse after use, usually run a little dish-soapy water through, and rinse five or six more times... then i hang it on my wife's little accordion-looking dowel rod laundry air drier thing with the ends facing down so moisture can drain down. rinse and sanitize before using. never had a problem.

I'm in PA, as well, but have not had a problem. Between siphoning from the fermenter to the bottling bucket and filling the 1st bottle, I give the tubing a quick rinse with hot water (tap) and put it into my bucket of sanitizer. There it sits until I clean up after filling the bottles.
